Department of Process Engineering and Technology of Polymer and Carbon Materials

Department

The Department of Process Engineering and Technology of Polymer and Carbon Materials (K25) is one of 15 departments functioning at the Faculty of Chemistry of Wroclaw University of Technology. It was established in 2020 on the wave of changes related to the amendment of the Law on Higher Education through the merging of the Department of Chemical Engineering and the Department of Polymer and Carbon Materials. The Head of the Department is Prof. Grażyna Gryglewicz, and 31 researchers represent the Department:

3 titular professors
10 associate professors
10 research and teaching assistant professors
2 teaching assistant professor
1 research assistant professor
2 research and teaching assistants
3 research assistants

The Department consists of three research groups. The research topics of the Process Engineering Group concern both classical issues related to the phenomena of momentum, heat and mass transport as well as separation processes. An important area of research is the physicochemistry of dispersion systems and the synthesis of multi-purpose compounds and functional nanostructures in accordance with the idea of sustainable development.

Staff Equipment Collaboration

The research subjects of the Polymer Materials Group include the issues of synthesis, modification and characterisation of reactive and functional polymers, their use in separation processes and for electricity generation.

Staff Equipment Collaboration

The research activities of the Carbon Materials Group focus on the synthesis of advanced carbon materials, including graphene and their composites, and activated carbons for environmental protection applications, gaseous fuel storage, energy storage and conversion, and thermochemical conversion of biomass.

Staff Equipment Collaboration

The research activities of the Department are carried out in cooperation with over 20 foreign and 10 national scientific institutions, as well as many industrial plants. It results in cooperation within projects financially supported by national funds (NCN, NCBiR, NCRF, MNiSW, ROP) and European funds (EU Coal and Steel Research Fund, EIT KIC, COST, PR7). The achievements of the Department's members go far beyond basic research, which is reflected in the implementation work and acquisition of projects financed by businesses.

The modern research infrastructure and high scientific potential make the Department's members publish their works in prestigious international journals, as well as being the laureates of numerous awards and distinctions and scholarships.
